IPMA ENCOURAGES INDUSTRY INNOVATION AND COLLABORATION THROUGH COTECH SERIES JAKARTA 2026
IPMA Encourages Industry Innovation and Collaboration through COTECH Series Jakarta 2026
The Indonesian Paint Manufacturers Association (IPMA) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of the national coatings industry through its participation in the COTECH Series – ASEAN Coatings New Technology Summit Jakarta 2026, held on 21 April 2026 at Novotel Tangerang.
The event served as a strategic platform for paint manufacturers, raw material suppliers, and technology providers to exchange knowledge, introduce the latest innovations, and strengthen collaboration at both national and regional levels.
Event Overview
COTECH Series is an industry forum combining conference sessions, technical presentations, and networking opportunities in one integrated event. The agenda covered industry trends, material innovations, production technologies, and sustainability issues that are becoming increasingly important in the global coatings industry.
The event was attended by more than 200 coatings professionals from various countries, including ASEAN countries, China, and Europe, making it an important platform for cross-border knowledge and experience exchange.
The event officially opened with welcome remarks delivered by Hanna Liu, Chief Operating Officer of New Exhibition Concept International Limited. In her speech, Hanna Liu emphasized the importance of regional collaboration and technology exchange in strengthening the growth of the Southeast Asian coatings industry amid rapidly evolving global market dynamics.
During the closing session, Hanna Liu once again delivered closing remarks, highlighting that synergy among manufacturers, suppliers, technology providers, and industry associations would become a key foundation in driving innovation and sustainability within the coatings industry.
Chairman’s Remarks: A New Direction for the Coatings Industry
In his remarks, IPMA Chairman Kris Adidarma stated that Indonesia holds a strategic position as the largest market in ASEAN, driven by growth in construction, automotive, and infrastructure development sectors, including the Nusantara Capital City project.
He also highlighted global challenges such as supply chain uncertainty, geopolitical dynamics, and the industry’s dependence on petrochemical-based raw materials. In this context, collaboration becomes essential:
“Asia will become stronger when we work together, share technology, and support one another in facing industry challenges.”
Kris further emphasized that the coatings industry is undergoing a transformation toward more sustainable technologies, such as water-based, bio-based, renewable, and low-VOC coatings, which are important not only from an environmental perspective but also as a future industrial resilience strategy.
As part of this commitment, IPMA has also initiated the establishment of the first coatings school in Southeast Asia to support the development of human resources prepared for industry transformation.
Keynote Speech: TSA Technology for Corrosion Prevention
One of the key sessions featured a keynote speech delivered by Larasanto, who was specially invited by IPMA to present on:
“TSA Coating to Prevent Corrosion Under Insulation”
In his presentation, Larasanto explained that corrosion is a material degradation process caused by interaction with the environment, particularly through electrochemical reactions in metals. One common industrial issue is Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI), which occurs when water or moisture becomes trapped between metal surfaces and insulation layers.
CUI is a common problem in industries such as oil & gas and power plants, caused by rainwater, leakage, or environmental humidity.
As a solution, Larasanto introduced Thermal Spray Aluminium (TSA) technology, a coating method in which molten metal particles are sprayed onto a substrate surface to create a protective layer.
Key advantages of this technology include:
- High corrosion resistance
- Strong adhesion performance
- Resistance to high temperatures and abrasion
- Low porosity to minimize moisture penetration
In conclusion, coatings with strong adhesion and crack resistance are highly effective in preventing CUI and significantly reducing corrosion rates.
Innovation and Technology in the Coatings Industry
Other technical sessions discussed:
- Resin and emulsion development for architectural coatings
- Pigment and additive innovations
- Environmentally friendly technologies
- Production efficiency (grinding & dispersing)
- Modern industrial equipment solutions
Sustainability became a major theme throughout the event, focusing on safer products, environmental responsibility, and energy efficiency.
Benefits and Industry Impact
Through this event, participants gained:
- Updates on global technology and trends
- Insights into industry challenges and opportunities
- Opportunities to expand international networks
COTECH Series also strengthened collaboration among manufacturers, suppliers, and technology providers in advancing the national coatings industry.
