APCI SHORT-TERM PROGRAMS: STRENGTHENING REGULATIONS, HUMAN RESOURCES, AND THE NATIONAL PAINT INDUSTRY

As an organization representing paint manufacturers in Indonesia, the Indonesian Paint Manufacturers Association (APCI) remains committed to strengthening the role of the industry in supporting national development. In the short term, APCI has set several strategic programs focusing on regulatory strengthening, human resource development, and sustainable industry growth.

1. Finalizing Lead Regulation in Paint

APCI, together with the Directorate of Downstream Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries (IKHF) of the Ministry of Industry, continues to support the development and finalization of regulations regarding the limitation of lead content in national paint products. This effort aims to ensure that the policy protects public health while also considering the readiness and sustainability of the domestic paint industry.

2. Advocating Recognition of Local Value in Imported Materials

APCI is also following up on its proposal to the government to recognize the local value of imported raw materials purchased through domestic distributors. This is important because the procurement and distribution process often involves significant local components and contributions.

3. Maintaining Voluntary SNI for Paint Products

APCI continues to advocate for the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for paint products to remain voluntary rather than mandatory. This position reflects the fact that many paint products are manufactured based on specific customer requirements or custom orders. A voluntary SNI framework would allow flexibility for the industry while maintaining product quality standards.

4. Development of SKKNI for Decorative Paint Applicators

In collaboration with the Indonesian Coating Association (Ascoatindo), APCI is preparing the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) for decorative paint applicators. This initiative aims to improve workforce competence in paint application and ensure better quality and professionalism in the field.

5. Supporting Vocational Education at SMK Mitra Industri MM2100

APCI also continues to monitor and support the learning process of students in the Paint Technology specialization program at SMK Mitra Industri MM2100. This program is an important step in preparing skilled human resources who are ready to contribute to the growth of Indonesia’s paint industry.

6. Knowledge Webinars for Members

As part of its commitment to strengthening member capacity, APCI will regularly organize knowledge-sharing webinars covering topics such as paint technology, industry regulations, market developments, and innovation in the coatings sector.

Through these short-term initiatives, APCI aims to strengthen collaboration between industry players, government institutions, educational institutions, and other stakeholders in order to advance a more competitive and sustainable paint industry in Indonesia.
