IPMA PARTICIPATES IN THE 2026 ASEAN COATING INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE

Jakarta, August 19, 2026 — The 2026 ASEAN Coating Innovation and Technology Development Conference was successfully held on August 18–19, 2026, at the JS Luwansa Hotel and Convention Center in Jakarta. Organized by Ringier Events, the conference brought together paint and coatings manufacturers, raw material suppliers, distributors, equipment providers, industry associations, researchers, and professionals from various related fields.
Since its inaugural edition in 2024, the conference has developed into an important platform for coatings industry stakeholders across Southeast Asia to exchange knowledge, discuss technological developments, expand their professional networks, and explore new opportunities for collaboration.
The 2026 conference addressed a wide range of strategic topics, including sustainable industry growth, lead-free paint reformulation, innovations in raw materials and functional coatings, corrosion and fire protection, hot-dip galvanizing, as well as developments in ISO standards and digital trust.

IPMA Highlights Strategies for Sustainable Industry Growth
The Indonesian Paint Manufacturers Association (IPMA) participated as one of the association partners supporting the conference. IPMA was represented by Dr. R. Pujiyono of IPMA’s Standing Committee on the Environment, who opened the presentation sessions with a presentation entitled “Sustainable Growth Strategies for Decorative & Industrial Coatings in Southeast Asia.”
In his presentation, Dr. R. Pujiyono discussed the growth prospects of the decorative and industrial coatings sectors in Southeast Asia, with particular emphasis on environmental considerations, changing market needs, and increasing demand for sustainable products.
Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia, has strong potential for coatings industry growth. Demand for paints and coatings continues to be driven by developments in various end-use sectors, including automotive, infrastructure, building construction, consumer goods manufacturing, and industrial estate development.
This growth must be supported by improvements in product quality, resource efficiency, technological innovation, compliance with applicable standards, and the implementation of environmentally responsible manufacturing practices.
IPMA’s participation in the conference reflects the association’s commitment to promoting the healthy, inclusive, competitive, and sustainable growth of Indonesia’s paint industry. Beginning in 2026, IPMA has also opened its membership to supporting industry companies, including raw material producers and suppliers that play strategic roles in the national paint industry’s supply chain.
Advancing the Transition to Lead-Free Paint
One of the key topics discussed at the conference was the transition toward safer paint formulations. Swapnil Mindhe, Senior Program Manager at the Lead Exposure Elimination Project (LEEP), delivered a presentation entitled “Lead-Free & Market-Ready: The Case for Paint Reformulation.”
The session addressed the challenges and opportunities associated with reformulating lead-free paint without compromising product quality, performance, or market competitiveness. The discussion emphasized that developing safer paint products requires technical readiness, supply chain support, market education, and collaboration among manufacturers, industry associations, and other relevant organizations.
During the conference, representatives of IPMA and LEEP also met and exchanged views on industry developments and efforts to promote the availability of safer paint products.
The meeting was documented in a group photograph featuring Jessica, Markus Winarto, Ademas from LEEP, Swapnil Mindhe from LEEP, and Dr. R. Pujiyono from IPMA’s Standing Committee on the Environment.
Diverse Innovations and Industry Perspectives
In addition to discussions on sustainability and lead-free paint, the conference featured a series of presentations covering various aspects of the coatings industry.
Adhitya Fikrie of Nanjing Tianshi New Material Technologies Co., Ltd. discussed the use of high-performance wax additives to enhance the characteristics and performance of coating formulations.
Representing the Indonesian Coating Association (ASCOATINDO), Larasanto, ST of CV Cipta Agung presented innovations in thermal spray coating techniques and their industrial applications.
Meanwhile, Abednego Purnomo, Chief Commercial Officer of PT. Suryacipta Swadaya, provided an overview of Indonesia’s industrial landscape, its latest developments, and the opportunities available to industry stakeholders.
The topic of high-performance coatings was also addressed by Brian Huesgen, Ph.D. of Carboline, who presented coating solutions designed to enhance fire protection.
In the area of asset protection, Ade Yusra of PT. Nuscaco Anti Korosi Indonesia discussed approaches to achieving long-term corrosion protection. This topic is particularly relevant to industries that require greater durability, reliability, and extended service life for industrial assets.
In the decorative paint sector, Achriano Toyang of PT. ICI Paints Indonesia presented innovations in paints with enhanced functionality, including antimicrobial protection, keep-cool technology, and dirt resistance.
Peter Sulianto of PT. Trayindo Teknik Mandiri and the Technical Committee of the Association of Galvanizers Indonesia (AGI) discussed the processes, inspection standards, and applications of hot-dip galvanizing to achieve effective, high-quality corrosion protection.
The conference also addressed developments in standardization and digital transformation through a presentation by Moch Malik of the International Society for Digital Trust (ISDT) and the Indonesian Society for Quality (ISQ). The session explored the 2026 ISO updates and the importance of digital trust to the future of Indonesia’s coatings industry.
The conference concluded with an industry perspective from Joey Roi Bondoc, Research Director at Colliers, who discussed the prospects, market developments, and opportunities for the coatings industry across Southeast Asia.
Strengthening Collaboration Among Associations and Industry Stakeholders
In addition to IPMA, the conference was supported by the Indonesian Coating Association (ASCOTINDO), Association of Galvanizers Indonesia (AGI), Indonesia ISO Expert Association (IIEA), and Indonesian Society for Quality (ISQ).
Collaboration among industry associations, manufacturers, raw material suppliers, technology providers, academics, and professionals plays an important role in building an increasingly integrated coatings industry ecosystem.
The conference also provided participants with opportunities to meet business partners, consult technical specialists, learn about the latest products and technologies, and establish connections that could lead to future business collaborations.
Industrial Visits to Two Manufacturing Facilities
On the second day, August 19, 2026, the program continued with an Industrial Learning Visit to the manufacturing facilities of PT. ICI Paints Indonesia and PT. Citra Galvanizing Indonesia.
PT. ICI Paints Indonesia, currently part of AkzoNobel’s decorative paints business, is a manufacturer of premium Dulux™ paints that has operated in Indonesia since 1971. The company is committed to health, safety, environmental responsibility, security, and sustainable development. PT ICI Paints Indonesia has also obtained ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, as well as the Singapore Green Label.
The delegation then visited PT. Citra Galvanizing Indonesia, a national company that has provided hot-dip galvanizing services since April 2009. The company is supported by advanced technology and qualified, certified professionals. PT.
